Murray received his degrees from the University of Alberta: B.Sc. in Agronomy with distinction in 1983, and M. Sc. in Soil Fertility in 1987. His work experience includes two years with a grain company, five years as the coordinator of an applied research association, and various crop specialist roles with the Alberta government since 1993. He has been the Provincial Oilseed Specialist since 2001.
His areas of interest in research and extension include canola physiology, crop rotation, post-registration variety performance testing, clubroot, blackleg and other canola diseases, fertilizer response, and field problem diagnostics.
