Jim was born and raised on a family in Dawson Creek, BC where he farmed with his brother. During his time farming he became actively involved in the BC Grain Producers Assoc and the Grain Growers of Canada and served in various roles and responsibilities with the organizations.
In 2007, Jim was appointed to the Canadian Grain Commission as the Assistant Chief Commissioner and moved to Winnipeg. He was reappointed for three consecutive terms and ended his time with the Commission in late Nov 2016.
Shortly after leaving the Grain Commission, Jim joined Cargill limited as the head of corporate affairs for Canada.
