Donna Trottier is the Farm and Ranch Safety Extension Coordinator for the Alberta Farm and Ranch Safety Extension Working Group. With direction from the Working Group, made up of Alberta crop and livestock commissions, Donna will be developing and delivering practical farm and ranch safety programs, materials and educational tools to Alberta’s farm and ranch community. The program also aims to create a model of farm safety education that can become the foundation of long-term, effective, and stable programming.
Donna’s passion for agriculture started on the grain farm where she was raised, near Colonsay, Saskatchewan and she has been continually engaged in the agricultural industry since leaving the farm. Donna is a Professional Agrologist and holds her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan. After university, Donna worked in several agricultural capacities including soil conservationist, project manager, crop input agrologist, sustainable agricultural extension coordinator, appraisal agrologist, entrepreneurial agriculture tour coordinator, environmental consultant and as a freelance agricultural journalist. In recent years Donna led the development of various agricultural safety tools and training courses for the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association and AgSafe BC. She was involved with the development of commodity-based tools and courses on hazard identification and assessment, farm employee safety orientations modules and farm safety testimonial videos.
Donna is looking forward to working with Alberta farmers and ranchers and helping them incorporate and embrace a culture of safety into their daily lives.
