Session Summary
Changes to plant breeders rights (PBR) legislation in Australia has facilitated the grower led development of an End Point Royalty system. This in turn has contributed to wheat breeding transforming from near 100% public ownership, control and funding in 2000 to fully privatised by 2008 and has resulted in substantial additional private investment.. Barley breeding is currently in transition from public to private. This presentation will provide an overview of the evolution of cereal breeding Australia and the potential implications on the Canadian grains industry.
