Bio
Sarah became a qualified seed analyst in purity and germination in 1977 at the National Institute of Agricultural Botany in Cambridge UK, and later went on to work with Charles Sharpes & Company in her home town Sleaford.
Sarah was given the opportunity to emigrate when she received a letter written in 1983 by Marie Greeniaus who was the President of the Commercial Seed Analysts Association of Canada (CSAAC) at that time. This correspondence initiated an opportunity to work for the United Grain Growers in Edmonton.
In 1985 Sarah qualified as a senior analyst by writing the exams set by CFIA to become recognized in Canada and quickly became comfortable with Canada’s unique grading system. In 1988 Sarah again wrote more exams with the Society of Commercial Seed technologists in the United States, becoming one of the world most qualified analysts.
In 1989 Sarah opened 20/20 Seed Labs Inc. taking the name to reflect perfect vision and establishing the company with accreditation in all grade tables. 20/20 has become one of Canada’s leading laboratories offering a wide range of services, including ISTA accreditation.
Over the years Sarah has been active with CSAAC and held several executive positions becoming Canada’s first National President in 1994. Sarah is one of Canada’s trainers for Authorised Establishments teaching grading for crop tables 1 through 6. Sarah is also an accredited crop inspector and accredited for smut in wheat and barley as well as ascochyta in pulse crops.
Today 20/20 Seed Labs Inc., has three locations across Canada specializing in molecular diagnostics, vigour and a variety of other important tests established to assess the quality of seed and grain. 20/20 Seed Labs Inc., has also established seed testing services in Chile to provide testing that is consistent with the Canadian system.
