Session Summary
The crop insurance database in Alberta was used to summarize the frequency and yield effects of various canola rotation breaks, and canola after different crops. Throughout the prairies canola rotations have shortened, and canola every second year is the most popular break interval in traditional canola growing areas. Canola on canola generally has 15-20% yield drop compared to canola every 2 or 3 years. Risks and strategies of managing short canola rotations will be discussed.
