Updated Canola Target Density and a Look at Rising CO2 Impact on Alberta Crops

Session Presented By:

About this session:

A recently updated meta-analysis of hybrid canola plant density and yield in western Canada will be presented. The updated response curve and associated economic factors of hybrid seed cost relative to canola price will be used to illustrate economic target densities that are lower than current recommendations. Other factors that influence the optimal density will be discussed.

The second topic will be the impact of higher CO2 concentrations on future crop yield and quality in Alberta. The results from international field studies using open top chambers or free air concentration enrichment methods will be used to estimate crop responses.
